I recall meeting Nigerian designer Lanre Da Silva Ajayi some years back at New York Fashion Week. I was invited to cover a fashion show she was showcasing in. What immediately struck me when I met her and remains unforgettable was the passion and energy she exuded both in her personality and her designs. Back then, Ajayi was focused on telling the story of the African woman in the 19th and 20th century, something no one was really doing. Over time, she has managed to strike a balance in well edited pieces that remain true to her signature love for colors while appealing to the 21st century African woman. I am enjoying her latest collection titled ‘Colour Storm.’ The vibrant burst of colors and clever silhouettes tells a story of a designer who has become even more intimately aware of the female physique and knows how to enhance all of its beauty through design and of course color. Enjoy.
