I can’t recall a time, when I lived in Nigeria as a child, that I wasn’t having to fetch drinking water, along with my siblings, for my family. I fetched from the neighbors who had water to sell, and I also fetched in very few instances from the well in the back of our flat (apartment homes). Fetching from the well was usually a dangerous proposition so my much stronger siblings did that for the most part.
Fetching water, however, was not unique to me. The entire city where I lived in Lagos and actually the entire Nigeria fetched water. Even the rich also fetched water. They just had their maids and house helps do it instead. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to walk too far to fetch water. However, in countless villages across Africa, millions walk long miles to fetch water and the water available to them is anything but clean.
Thankfully, beautiful souls like Ladybrille Woman Saran Kaba Jones’ has been trying to put an end to the issue of access to clean water. This is indeed exemplified by thirty prior completed projects by her and her team at Face Africa. It is also exemplified by some of her ongoing projects in Liberia including the just completed latest project in Kpor Town, Liberia.
