On May 11th, the Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship of the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, USA will convene entrepreneurs from developing countries around the world—and those who support them—to share stories of success and make lasting connections. The conference will showcase entrepreneurial visions in emerging economies, in diverse areas from finance to fashion. Keynote speakers, investors and panels will celebrate the values of innovative entrepreneurs who are helping to advance broad-based economic progress in low-income countries globally. Join us as our speakers, including our own Legatum Fellows, present and discuss cutting-edge ventures in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.

The conference which will feature keynote presentations by entrepreneurs leading successful and innovative enterprises will feature discussions on the dynamic changes occurring in emerging economies; the environment and challenges impacting entrepreneurship; securing financing; planning, scaling and exit strategies, amongst other issues.

Joining other speakers from Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa will be Mr. Audu Maikori, the Chocolate City Group CEO, who will be speaking on The Intersection of Innovation and Opportunity.

The LEGATUM MIT 2013 will afford Mr. Maikori the opportunity to share with the audience and in extension the world, some of the best practices that gave birth to the Chocolate City Group success story and how other entrepreneurs could mirror them to achieve meaningful and sustainable success in their own fields and locales. In addition, Audu will be also be advising the MasterCard Foundation with respect to its newly sponsored Global innovations competition. It will be recalled that Chocolate City Group won the African Awards for Entrepreneurship in 2011 emerging winner from over 3,330 applicants from over 48 countries around Africa. Chocolate City is considered one of the biggest entertainment companies across Sub Saharan Africa with offices in Abuja, Lagos and Nairobi, Kenya.

About Legatum MIT Center

The Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship was founded at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2007 through a multi-million dollar gift from Legatum, a global investment firm, and operates on the belief that economic progress and good governance in low-income countries emerge from entrepreneurship and innovations that empower ordinary citizens.

The Center administers programs and convenes events that promote and shape discourse on bottom-up development. Led by Iqbal Z. Quadir, the Center runs a highly competitive fellowship program for MIT students who intend to launch enterprises in low-income countries. In addition, the Center convenes an annual conference, hosts lectures, and supports teams of enterprising men and women at MIT who are passionate about starting viable businesses in the developing world.
