Pop’ Africana Magazine, one of our favorite and highly creative fashion magazines, bids adieu to the fashion community. Founder and Editor-in-Chief, Oroma Elewa, moves on to the next phase in her creative career; and wants to express her creativity beyond what she did at the Magazine.
We will miss Pop’ Africana Magazine!
“Dear Pop’Africana readers,
This is the end of Pop’Africana as you know it.
The decision to end this project has been wavering for over a year. I have considered several options and fielded many opinions on whether to continue and how, but ultimately the decision to end Pop’Africana was inevitable.
I started this project with unmistakably high hopes and a tremendous drive to inspire and celebrate individualism; to show the world different ideas about beauty and to deliver a rejuvenated image of Africa as a whole. Through Pop’Africana I had hoped the world’s opinions of us would change and I have dedicated myself to this with all of my heart and soul.
It goes without saying that many amazing projects are crippled by a certain lack of support, but I cannot say this is the sole case for me as I have received enormous support from you, the fashion industry and from my friends and family. In fact, it has been an honor to represent Africa in this capacity and to have had experienced all that I have throughout this protracted journey. This decision to end Pop’Africana is nothing short of personal. While it is not without sadness, I am simply ready to embark on a more personal creative journey; to move past works that have been solely based on Africa and to explore other creative possibilities.
The burning desire and need to get back to my roots in photography and design can no longer be ignored. . .” – Oroma Elewa/Pop’ Africana Magazine
