Howard University Alumni DC Chapter Jazz Luncheon and International Couture Fashion Show “AFRICA ROYALE” on Sunday, March 25, 2012
“Perpetuating Our Global Commitment Thru Fashion Design and Dance”
(Washington, DC) – Howard University DC Alumni Chapter will host their annual signature scholarship fundraiser, Jazz Luncheon and Fashion Show entitled “Africa Royale” at the Blackburn Center Ballroom on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at 1:00pm. WHUR-96.3 News Anchor Molette Green, will serve as Mistress of Ceremony at the Annual Jazz Brunch.
This year’s luncheon will feature International Designers including Studio d’Maxsi (Afua Sam of Ghana), YouniKalsbim Fashions (Hadjia of Nigeria), Kustom Looks Clothier (Kwab Asamoah of Ghana), and Anjoreen Couture (Nigeria). US Designers include Soliloquy Bridal Couture (Miriam Liggett of Virginia), Therez Fleetwood of New York, and the collection of Kevan Hall Collection (designer featured on Housewives of Beverly Hills).
To represent the best of Africa, the runway models will include Miss Africa USA, Miss Ghana USA, Miss Sierra Leone USA, Miss Guinea North America, and Miss District of Columbia USA. Howard University Alumni Club President has extended invitations to African ambassadors to attend the international event. Fashion Show Executive Director, Evy Edwards collaborated with Miss Africa USA Pageant Coordinator, Lady Kate Njeuma, and Nikeelah Freeman, owner of In His Image modeling agency to cast the runway models. NuNu Wako will be the media princess covering the event.
The annual jazz luncheon is the signature fundraising event and provides funding for college scholarships to deserving underprivileged students. This year, the alumni will honor the Founders Library and C. Brian Williams, founder of Step Afrika. Previous year honorees are DC Mayor Vincent Gray, Radio Legend Donnie Simpson, WJLA Cynne Simpson, Dr. Lynn Locklear, DDS, Miss Black USA Shayna Rudd and more.
