SocietyHAE.com, Big Fuel and Social Media Week Host A Multimedia Event and Photography Installation Focused on Digital Media + Culture In Africa

New York, NY – On Monday, February 13th SocietyHAE.com in partnership with Social Media Week and Big Fuel will host “Meet The Afropolitans: Digital Media + Culture In Africa,” a multisensory presentation on digital media and culture in Africa and how both are providing the world with an alternative view of the continent.

“Meet The Afropolitans: Digital Media + Culture In Africa” will look at how Africans are using digital media to re-image Africa in their own likeness and to collaborate with their contemporaries beyond their countries borders. A panel of thought leaders on African culture, media and music will share their insights and introduce attendees to Africa’s next wave of musicians, artists and tastemakers. The event will close with a live mixing session of afrobeats by DJ Frei of AFRIKA21. On view will be portraits of emerging African artists and cultural curators by award winning Sierra Leonian photographer Delphine Fawundu. Complimentary African cuisine and fair-trade chocolates from Ghana will be provided courtesy of Panla.com and Divine Chocolate.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Ngozi Odita/Moderator (Nigeria) – Founder and Creative Director of Society HAE

Yolanda Sangwini (South Africa) is the founder of AfriPOPmag.com and the entertainment editor of ESSENCE.com. A lover of all things culture, Yolanda calls AfriPOP! “a celebration of our innovativeness, funkiness, style, and possibilities as children of Africa.”

Kathleen Bomani (Tanzania) is a cultural curator and people connector. She currently serves as event curator for TEDxDar in Tanzania, a youth-led initiative promoting active discourse and public engagement; and works with the UK based sustainable development think tank Africa Gathering.

Boima Tucker (Sierra Leone) is an electronic musician/DJ, cultural activist, and writer currently based in New York. He is a member of the Brooklyn based music, arts, and culture collective, Dutty Artz.
