Genevieve Nnaji is adept at playing no-nonsense/anti-conformist roles. Her role in ‘Sleep Walker’ is no exception. Starring alongside some of Nollywood’s top names i.e. Ramsey Nouah and Mercy Johnson and Ghana’s Jackie Appiah, Nnaji plays the lead female character, Angel. Angel, at age 12, witnessed the murder of her parents, by a wealthy business tycoon Chief Diminas (Ghana’s actor Koffi Adjolo) . Chief Diminas also brutally rapes Angel right after he murders Angel’s parents in her presence. The rape and homicides marks the genesis of a psychopath ready to do whatever it takes, by any means necessary, to avenge the death of her parents and her rape. What happens? Does Angel get the revenge she has obsessed about since 12years old?
In this film, the writers and producers get a few nods from us for deviating from the norm and coming up with a criminal suspense movie. The movie also provides an insight into Nigeria’s mental health institutions, or the lack thereof in proper mental health care, especially dealing with post traumatic stress disorders. The fashion costumes and styling also receive an upgrade and consistency.
