Tara Fela Durotoye – Mentee Fortune Global Women Mentoring Partnership

We received in our inbox great news from the Tara Fela-Durotoye camp. Durotoye has been selected as a participant in the Fortune Women Mentoring Partnership program. The only Nigerian participating in the program, she will be a mentee alongside Margaret Mattix, Vice President Exxon Mobil Global Marketing, Suzanne M. McCarron-G.M Public and Government Affairs, and Terri Fariello–Government Relations Manager.

“FORTUNE Most Powerful Women Summit and the U.S. State Department established the Global Women’s Mentoring Partnership in May 2006. This public-private partnership places talented, emerging women leaders from all over the world in mentoring programs with FORTUNE’s Most Powerful Women Leaders.

The three-phase program opens with an orientation session in Washington, D.C., where the participants meet with senior women in government, academia and business. The international participants are then paired with one of FORTUNE’s Most Powerful Women Leaders from companies like Time Inc., Avon, Wal-Mart, and Exxon Mobil in cities across the United States. For three weeks, American and international participants work together in mentoring relationships to share the skills and experiences necessary for strengthening women’s leadership. The program concludes in New York City, where the participants have meetings with Goldman Sachs and Solera Capital.

There are now 116 FORTUNE/State Department alumnae around the world. The next FORTUNE program is slated to take place from April 26 – May 21, 2010. Aproximately thirty-five mentees, each nominated by the U.S. Embassy in their home country, are expected to participate.”

  2. You guys are doing a great work. I want to recommend the expansion of mentoring practices in Nigeria as a means in expanding the development of the business empire and making more Nigerians independent business individuals, who will give more impact to her economy and sustain the practice. I was once with a multinational but now I have resigned, I resigned because I discovered most of the employers in Africa are employed. I decided to do what I love doing with my life. That has attracted me to certain people who end up becoming my mentors while I was their Mentee. While doing training across Nigeria, I discover that most mentors are trained to mentor others, but they don’t train the mentees, which does not really make the mentoring programs more effective. I started looking at mentoring from Mentee perspective. I came up with a product called Corporate Menteeship; on How to attract a mentor and get the best of mentoring. That has become a service that I am offering to schools, conferences, seminars, corporate organizations… I am building a blog to support the product: http://www.menteementor.blogspot.com.
I am offering my services to you for free.
