Lagos Carnival: 93,000 Locally Produced Costumes to be Displayed at Lagos Carnival 2010

The much talked about Lagos State Carnival which begins tomorrow will display over 93,000 costumes all made by local residents! In a press conference on March 30th, 2010 addressing hospitality and other logistics for the carnival, Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashiola thanked principals, instructors and students who worked for four months to produce the over 93,000 pieces of costumes that will be on display.

Fashola stated with pride that no foreign supervisors or artisans were brought into the country to make any of the costumes that will be on display.

“Everything you will see on display and some of those you are already seeing were made here in Lagos by your children, your brothers and sisters, your wives and husbands during an enterprising period of commercial exchanges, job creation and team work that shows clearly that nothing is impossible for us to achieve in Lagos once we set our minds to it”, said Fashola.

We are excited about the Carnival, the boost to the local economy and the many job creations. Costume making is also an aspect of Nigeria’s fashion industry we expect to see continued growth, especially with the popular Calabar Festival/Carnival and now Lagos Carnival!

Bravo to Lagos State and Governor Fashola.
